Cast Of ‘The Pupil’ Thanked On The Paranormal Activity Blu-Ray

I got a free copy of the Blu-Ray of Paranormal Activity today, sent from Think Jam. I was quite excited in seeing the layout of the competition winning films and it was really good to see they were nicely presented. It’s a pity that ‘The Pupil’ had to be withheld due to the cast’s age and the competitions terms and conditions, though Think Jam made sure we were thanked on the DVD and Blu-ray. It’s not a great compromise, but at least it was something. The actual winner was ‘Heebie Jeebies’, which was nicely shot.

The Gleniffer Pupils involved in the making of ‘The Pupil’ were each thanked by name as a special acknowledgment at the end of the shorts. It is proof that what we had achieved in that one year of lunchtime filming was truly spectacular.

The Pupil Edited For Paranormal Activity Comp

I received a mail from ‘Be Prepared To Be Scared‘ asking me to submit a 3 minute version of ‘The Pupil’ into the Paranormal Activity Competition. The prizes are varied and great, so it would be amazing for the pupils that took part in the short, if they get the recognition they deserve.

Below you will get the chance to view the edited HD version.

Exquisite Corpse Halloween Monster Activity

halloween monsterThis is a perfect activity for S1 or S2 this week (aged 10 – 13). It involves getting pupils into groups of four. A pupil is selected to cut the page into four parts (the page can be printed on A4 though I find A3 is much easier to use). The four parts are split between each group member. Each pupil has to think of an idea for their body piece. The only rule is that the pupils meet the connect points at the edge of each body piece so that the monster will look right when joined together again.

After pupils have finished drawing and colouring (I use pencils, black fine-liners and colour felt tips), the pieces should be sticky taped together again and then compared and laughed at. This should be completed within a 50 min period. Happy Halloween!

Where The Wild Things Are Movie Activity Sheet

Wild Activity

My ‘Where the Wild Things are’ resources seem to be very popular at the minute, so I thought I’d quench your thirst with an activity sheet I made about 2 years ago. I had created this unit in advance of the movie release in October 2008, but of course it was delayed by a year. The activity was aimed towards S1 (10-12) for a 50 minute period. Most pupils did not finish the activity as they still wanted to add more movie titles and had got into a competition of who could think of the most.

This is a pleasant filler lesson teaching about movie poster elements, letting pupils practice their tonal skills, with a little movie knowledge thrown in.

In Sections

A very late but interesting activity resource today. Pupils cut out the jigsaw shapes of the dragon fly to copy the small image on the lower left. When cutting out the insect parts I would advise that pupils leave a halo of white, approximately 2mm around the parts when cutting. Parts should be glued down with a glue stick (i.e. Pritt Stick). One issue I’ve had with this sheet is when pupils trim out the parts they often cut their name and class from the top of the form. Just be aware of this if it happens. For future cutting activities I have made sure the name and class are very close to the working area.

Remember when teaching pupils to cut with scissors that they should use the whole scissor length, long slow cuts and move the paper not the scissors.

When completed, pupils should leave the insect to dry and work on colouring the background using tone. This should leave enough time for the insect to crisp up and be dry enough to be coloured itself.

I use this resource for S1-S3 (pupils aged 11-14)

When It’s O.K. To Have CD Filler

Today’s free resource (the third of seven for this week) is for S1 classes. For those that don’t use the ‘P & S’ system, that’s for children around the age of 10-12. This sheet was created as absent teacher cover when I had been off during my CD Cover Design unit. The activity requests the pupil to do three tasks; colour with tone, name the areas of the package and then show their music knowledge on the back of the sheet. This will fill a period (50 minutes) quite easily and I even had pupils asking to return to it to guess more artists later on in the project.

As with all my down-loadable resources, you’ll find the link below in the ‘Box’ (bottom of the right hand column).
