Kirsten from S1 has spent a long time building up her sketchbook with lots of different drawings. She has created various animal characters, each with their own name and traits. Although her sketchbook contains mostly manga-esque drawings there are many tonal studies, structure studies, pattern and even some attempts of techniques learnt in art at school. Below are a few of my favourite pages from her book.
S1 (Gleniffer) in 2007/08 were given the task of creating a ‘Colour Feel’ booklet. The booklet consisted of an exploration of the visual elements, colour mixing and tonal shading. The covers of the booklet were made from two final pieces based on two themed words; ‘Splosh’ and ‘Boom’.
The S3 (Notredame) Pupils had made their sets and characters and were currently working on the stop-animation during these photographic shots. Their short films were based on several artists’ work including DaVinci, Escher, Monet, Bosch and Munch.
Horror film made by Gleniffer Film Making Club. Shot over our 30 minutes lunch breaks for a whole year. Featuring pupils from S2 & S3, this 10 minute short was completely devised, created and shot by the pupils.
Some more examples of resources used to introduce S3 (Notredame) to the paintinimation unit. I used Salvador Dali’s ‘Persistence of Time’ as my example animation. Unfortunately I have lost the animation of the melting clocks (they were held on a faulty USB) though below you will see storyboarding for a Rene Magritte based animation and the stills from the Dali animation.
This is the resource that I and Miss Wilson made in Notredame showing how S3 could animate a famous painting. It was made in an afternoon by taking colour photocopies of Kandinsky’s Painting, cutting out the shapes and moving them step by step. It is titled ‘Red Tickets’ but I am sure that this is the wrong title for this particular painting, that was my error. It still works pretty well and allowed the S3 pupils to realise what could be possible.
2A (Gleniffer) have been working on a group sculpture for the Anti-Hatred/Holocaust Day competition ran by Renfrewshire Council. They made an interactive sculpture, it consists of 16 papier mache pebbles (to resemble the pebbles placed on a Jewish grave), stenciled with letters that read “Hatred Destroys All.” The observer is invited to re-arrange the letters, destroying the phrase.
S2 continue to progress through their Mexican Art unit, some more faster than others. Chelciann is currently working on an artist themed skeleton. She has painted the coffin with little paintbrushes and has made a large paintbrush for the skeleton to hold. She is also planning to make a palette for him to hold. I really like his beret, it’s going to look fantastic when it’s finished.
Below you’ll see a few good examples of S1 work for a CD Cover Design. The design is based around a fictional band called ‘The Animals’ and features the skins/fur of different animals for the booklet and case.
Above Sarah is working on a detailed drawing of tiger fur, while Kirstin works on her extremely intricate Snake skin design below.
Another feature new to the blog is ‘Work From Home’. This will be an irregular post of interesting work that pupils have made at home. Not exactly homework, this is more about what artwork pupils are motivated to work on outside school. Our very first piece of work is this fine piece of design from Emma in S1. She has used her great tonal and drawing skills to draw a butterfly with close up. She has also used a shaped cutter to make little butterflies and ink around their outline.
